Wood-Fired Ceramic Vase with Bamboo-Woven Handle
by Jiang Ma Xiang
This flower vessel brings together two time-honored traditions in a single, refined form: wood-fired ceramics and intangible cultural heritage bamboo weaving. The ceramic body is created through a traditional wood-firing process, where ash, flame, and kiln atmosphere leave natural traces—subtle fire marks, tonal layering, and organic surface variations that make each piece unmistakably one of a kind.
The handle is crafted from hand-worked bamboo using traditional weaving and binding techniques. The bamboo section is finished with natural lacquer (urushi) for coloration, producing a deep, restrained sheen while helping protect and reinforce the structure over time.
